Six Things to Remember as a Believer

A Devotional by Margot Cioccio

I found a bookmark that my son Niah brought home from teen camp this summer. Its been floating around the house since July. I thought it was pretty cool at the time. Today it came to the surface again,  so I though I would pass it along to you.  The bookmark was put together I guess, by the speaker at the camp.  His name is Dan Nickerson.  Anyway I would agree that they are good things not just for my teenage son to remember but for you and me as well.

Six Things to Remember as a Believer.

1. You are a new creation ~  2 Corinthians 5:17
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!

2. You need spiritual food ~ 1 Peter 2:1-2
Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind.  Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation,

3. You are at a critical point in your life ~ Ephesians 4:11-15
It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, 12 to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up 13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.
14 Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of men in their deceitful scheming. 15 Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ.

4. You need to be a good example ~ 1 Timothy 4:12
Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity.

5. God needs to be first in everything ~ Matthew 22:37
Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’

6. You need to be fervent in your prayer life ~ Hebrews 4:14-16
Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet was without sin. 16 Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

Prayer:
Dear Lord, Help us to remember these verses. Help us to not just hear them and nod our heads in agreement but to really put them to practice in our daily lives. Help us to grow up into you. Lead us and guide us by your Holy Spirit today and be with us step by step in our faith journey.
